The concept of Step Aboard is to enjoy spraying the atmosphere of the city and the area as if they were graffiti. Street art, which also inspires them, is perceived in different ways depending on the environment and background. The same thing can look completely different from a slightly different perspective or under different circumstances.
For this exhibition, each painting has been given two different titles. Both have their own fragrance that was the source of the image and can be appreciated at the same time as the painting. Using them as clues, two different stories emerge.
It seems that few people usually pay attention to their noses when looking at a painting. But I have learned that next to sight, smell has the greatest impact on memory and emotion. I myself have been creating works mainly as visual art, relying almost exclusively on the sense of sight. However, I have been interested in fragrance for the past few years and have been doing a lot of research on it, and I was wondering what I could do using my sense of smell. This is my first attempt to intersect Step Aboard's five scents through five artworks and ten titles.
What we see with our eyes fades or becomes distorted with time, but the memory of a scent hardly changes. Will the past suddenly come back to you in vivid detail, or will you someday remind the experience of this day? We look forward to talking with each viewer of the exhibition to find out what stories they remind.
