Acrylic on Canvas

What I like is finding things that people don't know much about and have never encountered before. Rather than just accept something that someone else has selected, I would rather pick it out of a myriad of choices. A piece of vintage clothing picked out of thousands of pieces, or a toy found at a flea market that no one else seems to want. A book plucked from a pile in a used bookstore, or a jumble of knickknacks found in an old souvenir shop. If they were neatly displayed, we would not be so attached to them.
However, I found myself unconsciously on the side of the selectors. I felt a sense of discomfort, even though I worked hard to let people see and know my work. In my cramped studio, many canvases were stacked on top of each other, and most of the "paintings" were hidden from view. Like selecting a book by its spine, the canvases are selected by their sides, and the rest are painted on. The finished works are cut out as "pictures" that are neither more nor less than that, arranged, and appreciated.
And if they are eventually discovered somewhere else, unexpectedly, and someone like me is delighted by them, I am glad that I painted them.
