Solo Exhibition “Ebb”

HARUKA ITO by ISLAND presents Ebb, a solo exhibition by Keeenue, opening on 28th March
Working across painting, sculpture, collage and mural, Keeenue’s practice operates between media, site and narrative construction. Her early recognition was marked by MAPP_YOUR WORLD (2021), a projection-mapped animation installation situated in the urban fabric of Shibuya, followed by Chill and Thrill (2022), a mural at JR Ōmiya Station. Subsequent large-scale interventions—including a nearly 40-metre installation for Roppongi Art Night (2023) at the University of Tokyo—extend her engagement with public space as a site of inscription and circulation. Parallel collaborations with commercial entities such as Nike, Coach and Land Rover, alongside the solo exhibition Color Outside the Lines at PARCO Museum Tokyo (2025), position her practice within a field that traverses both institutional and corporate contexts.
For Ebb, Keeenue presents a new body of work developed through fieldwork, archival research and interviews conducted in Arao, a coastal city with which the artist maintains personal ties. Adopting an ethnographic methodology, the artist engages with fragments of local histories, oral narratives and situated knowledges, which are reconfigured into a speculative narrative framework. At its core is a fable-like account of a boy living in a small seaside town—an organising device through which multiple temporalities and registers of memory are mediated. The paintings and sculptural works presented here emerge from this narrative as both materialisations and displacements of its internal logic.
